Job Description

The Precision Meso-scale Technology Center (PMTC) exists to provide mechanical solutions that enable the capabilities of Keysight's industry leading electronic measurement equipment. As a machinist you will develop and sustain machining processes utilizing cutting edge machine tools such as wire EDM, Swiss Style Lathes, 3 to 5 axis milling centers and multi-axis mill turn machines. Working closely with R&D; on microwave applications you will influence designs for mechanical components and assemblies, ensure design for manufacturability, facilitate release and support production. This position is at our company headquarters in Santa Rosa, California, which is located in the wine country about one hour north of San Francisco. Santa Rosa is a medium-size city, of approximately 150,000 people, with mild climate and lots of recreational opportunities.

Uses machine tools to make or modify parts that conform to specifications and/or tolerances. Working from blueprints, process sheets, sketches and engineering specifications, determines assignment plan, layout, sequence of operations, and necessary tool adjustments required for operating and programming various types of manual and computerized machine shop equipment. Determines material, parts, and equipment required. Performs production, prototyping and/or new product introduction tasks, which may include: cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions, conventional and CNC milling, turning, grinding, wire EDM and fixture design. Conducts in-process inspection of machined parts against specified tolerances. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly.

• Duties involve analysis and new/ customized approaches
• Solves complex problems of varying scope and complexity, requiring breadth/ depth of knowledge of technical discipline(s), operations and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Keysight is looking for a highly motivated individual with advanced machining skills. This position will require a journeyman level machinist with several years of industry experience accompanied by a knack for precision and detail. Must have the willingness to learn, strong teamwork, positive attitude, dedication and job flexibility are a must. In addition, you will interface with PMTC Model Shop Business Team Coordinator, engineering, management as well as production schedulers.
    Experience with any/all the following is highly desired:
    • Wire EDM, including fine wire
    • Milling and Turning
    • Advanced Metrology
    • CNC Programming/CAM Programming Software
    • CAD/Solid Modeling
    • Tool Grinding
    • Interpreting specifications including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

    Education/Experience
    • May require some specialized training/certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Journeyman certificate and minimum of 5 years relevant experience
    • Proven success in a wire EDM operation to over-deliver on customer needs
    • At least 2 years' experience in Wire EDM and/or precision machining operations demonstrating rapid skill development and progressively increased proficiency.
    • Demonstration of excellent communication and teamwork skills
    • Journeyman certification a must
    • Direct fine wire EDM precision machining experience is a plus
