This job is in our Nano-Positioning Metrology Division (NPMD) where we design, develop and manufacture the world’s most precise displacement measurement instruments used to control motion in semiconductor equipment making the world’s next generation ICs, microprocessors, and flash memory chips. Your work will advance the state of the art of precision measurement – helping to push the boundaries of this technology into picometer territory!

In this role as an intern you will be a key member of a team of manufacturing engineers who support our high mix/low volume production of precision opto-mechanical laser interferometry system products in our world class Santa Clara factory.  You will also work closely with R&D teams developing the products and processes for the next generation of these products.  The ideal intern is one who takes a pro-active approach to issues, then “rolls up their sleeves” to troubleshoot and correct the issues. 


This is a Co-Op position that will last from January 2019 to June 2019.

Job Qualifications


  • Working BS in Mechanical Engineering or Optical Engineering.
  • Have an innate sense of mechanical systems and operate with a hands-on approach.
  • Self-starter able to think and act independently to translate general objectives into tangible results, with a record of delivering results.
  • Ability to work in a class 1000 (ISO 6) cleanroom environment.
  • Experience using CAD tools 
  • Possess strong written and oral English communications skills.
  • Ability to work well in team environment with people at all levels.


  • Experience operating, repairing, and/or programming CNC machinery.
  • Experience with electronic equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Proficiency with the safe use of machine tools (CNC or manual).
