Job Description

As a Materials Engineer for Keysight Probes and Accessories (P&A) products, you will enable Keysight Technologies to bring electro-mechanical designs to market by providing high quality materials engineering and supplier selection services to internal R&D customers.


This position is an integral part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team working on the latest R&D designs with a focus on high quality designs and aggressive time-to-market scheduling.


Primary Job Duties Include:

  • Perform as the main technical lead for third party Original Equipment Manufacturer/Original Design Manufacturer (OEM/ODM) sourcing and product development in partnership with NPI Commodity Managers
  • Partner with Supply Chain (SC) team members to translate Marketing requirements for P/A OEM/ODM products into technical Statements of Work (SOW)
  • Coordinate and communicate P&A product technical specifications and with suppliers and internal partners
  • Lead supplier engagement to resolve any quality related issues during NPI or in production including issuance of Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCAR)
  • Address quality, design, or safety concerns with supplier during NPI phase
  • Collaborate with SC team members to set supplier commodity strategies and provide supplier performance feedback when required
  • Engage with Marketing and R&D team members to understand NPI product roadmap strategies and priorities
  • Engage with Quality/Hardware Test Center/regulatory teams to understand product safety requirements, RoHS, and other certificate requirements to communicate expectations with suppliers and include as needed in SOWs


Other Job Duties Include:

  • Provide component selection support for assigned commodities – these could be electronic and mechanical components associated with P&A products and other supported product lines as required
  • Provide support for monitoring and coordinating field returned P&A products
  • Coordinate activities to provide failure analysis and analytics around warranty returns for P&A products both in-house designed and OEM/ODM
  • Initiate ECOs to change designs to improve costs or address quality problems

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related scientific discipline, with minimally 8 years of experience in a professional materials and manufacturing engineering and supply chain related environment
  • Experience reviewing and selecting digital and analog components for specific design applications
  • Experience and understanding of printed circuit manufacturing (rigid and flex) and assembly processes
  • Ability to work effectively across functional organizations such as R&D, Procurement and other business and engineering organizations
  • Ability to effectively work with contract manufactures (CMs) and other suppliers individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to be responsible for the technical and quality aspects of commodity team activities including part and supplier identification, evaluation, qualification and management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice of scientific or engineering concepts to function as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Ability to lead small teams and projects


Desired Skills:

  • Expertise and experience with Product Lifecycle Management
  • Fabrication techniques for mechanical parts -  sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, machining, assembly, and finishing
  • Experience and ability to utilize and interpret 2D & 3D CAD data effectively; preferably Creo Co-Create Tools
  • Familiarity with mechanical design practices, techniques, and tradeoffs
  • Excellent team working ability as well as self-motivation, innovation and individual contribution
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers
  • Demonstrable project management and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Tools
