You are an optical system designer looking to join a dynamic development team? Join us and become part of our photonics development team, belonging to the Keysight Communications Solutions Group, located in Böblingen, near Stuttgart. In this position, you will get the opportunity to work in a highly motivated team to develop best in class fiber optical test and measurement instruments such as lasers and optical power meters.

 

To be successful in this challenging role, you need to be a pro-active problem solver with a keen interest in measurement science who is comfortable working to tight timescales and able to resolve conflicting priorities and requirements with minimal supervision. Also, you need a solid background in fiber and free-space optics complemented by a good understanding of electrical and optical measurement techniques and ideally some experience in PIC technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design optical components and sub-systems for optical test and measurement instruments
  • Define and build test setups to verify the performance characteristics of newly developed optical components, sub-systems, and products using modern measurement techniques and instruments in collaboration with our manufacturing team
  • Write test scripts, e.g. using MATLAB or Python, to characterize components, sub-systems, and products
  • Analyze measurement results to prepare project management and product placement decisions

To be successful in this role you bring with you:

  • Master, PhD or equivalent degree in Physics or a related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of fiber and free-space optics complemented by some practical experience
  • Good understanding of electrical and optical measurement techniques
  • Basic programming skills, e.g. in MATLAB or Python
  • Good English and German language skills (at least level B2 of the CEFR)
  • Ideally some practical experience in simulating optical sub-systems, preferably using Zemax OpticStudio.
  • Ideally a good understanding of modern PIC technologies
